Amdo is the traditional Tibetan region found on the northeast area of the Tibetan Plateau located in modern day Qinghai, southwest Gansu and northern Sichuan provinces. Amdo is home to over 25% of the total Tibetan population of China and is a great place to see authentic Tibetan culture and lifestyle without large crowds of tourists. Rolling grasslands, lakes, rivers and mountains along with plenty of Tibetan nomads and farmers are found in the area. Though lesser known than Lhasa and central Tibet, Amdo promises customers a good Tibetan experience in more off-the-beaten path locations.
